Many Deserters, Few Prosecutions

Over 20,000 soldiers have deserted the ranks since 2006 after long, drawn out deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan in dangerous conditions, but only 1,900 cases have been prosecuted. The problem of desertion isn’t a new one, however no unit exists to track down deserters and bring them in for justice.
