Worlds Highest Prison Population

The US has 5% of the worlds population but over 25% of its imprisoned citizens. With 2.3 million people behind bars, and 2.7 million children with at least one parent locked up, the US imprisonment rate has gone up 400% since 1970. This is despite recent research indicating incarceration is not a deterrent to crime.
