Rita Mae Brown

Rita Mae Brown is a proponent of equal constitutional rights for all Americans. After publicly supporting gay civil rights in 1964, she was expelled from the University of Florida. She hitchhiked to New York and joined the women’s rights movement. Her landmark novel, Rubyfruit Jungle, published in 1973, is still widely read today.
